Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Dr. Marilyn and I grew up in Middle Tennessee. I attended Parker University in Dallas, TX to obtain my Doctorate of Chiropractic after discovering my passion for serving pregnant women, young kids, and families! I am a huge advocate for physiological birth, empowered pregnancies, and birth freedom. I feel like I was called to serve the community out of abundant love & to empower all women to respect their divinely-created bodies. I am passionate about addressing childhood stress & trauma with chiropractic care. Offering holistic, non-pharmaceutical options for health is My life’s pursuit.
How did you get your business idea?
Our mission is to empower families to take ownership of their health and enrich our community through intentional connection and that’s how we got our business idea. I also got the idea while attending college. I met my husband in college and we both were inspired to make this idea come to a reality. We are really passionate about what we do and having a partner in the same field made it easier to express ourselves through our work.
How did you make your first sale?
I made my first sale when we first opened the business.
What is unique about owning and running a business in Murfreesboro?
Something that is unique about owning and running a business in Murfreesboro is the support that we get from the community and other local businesses. I love the small-town feel and there is a great community that is only getting bigger and better! Murfreesboro has a lot to offer and I’m glad to be a part of it.
As a business owner, what keeps you up at night?
I would honestly say everything. When running a business, there are many things that you have to pay attention to and take care of which can be kind of stressful. I’m talking about the financial responsibilities, as well as making sure our patients are taken care of in the most effective way. It is important to us to make sure we do things correctly on our end and for our patients.
Where do you wanna go with your business?
I would love to add more people to my team. I think that would be great for our business. It would allow us to take on more patients! Eventually, I would love to open up a second location. that definitely is a possibility in the near future!
What’s one business lesson you’ve learned that you’re willing to share?
I would say don’t be afraid to get uncomfortable. I think that would be the first step. I would also say that find people who want to do the same thing as you. You can learn a lot from each other. It can definitely help you out in the long run!
What’s a podcast book or website you recommend that inspired you to grow your business.?
I recommend a book called ” Building A Story Brand” by Donald Miller. He explains how to leverage the power of a story to create marketing materials. He also explains why Storytelling is the most interesting and effective human communication method in existence. This book is a good read!
What do you use for your daily to-do list?
I use pen and paper to keep up with things I need to do and remember. I also just try and remember things when I don’t have a pen and paper handy. Writing out my to-do list has been the most effective way so far.
What social media tools do you use that other business owners could use?
Canva is a great social media tool that I think other business owners could use too. They have a lot of resources that I think are very useful. Another social media app I would recommend would be Quik. It turns your favorite memories into automatic highlight videos!
