What’s the origin story of your business?

My origin story of my business came from my passion for animals. Animal behavior has always been so fascinating  and this led me to study animal science at MTSU. I went from training horses to eventually training dogs. I enjoy working with animals and I enjoy teaching them. Watching them grow and change is the best part of it all! That’s how I ended up in the canine industry. Animals and teaching are a gift that I have and is what I’m good at. That led me to combine those gifts to start my business.

What’s an obstacle that you’ve had to overcome to build your business?

I would say that one obstacle that I had to overcome to build my business is the transition from my kids going up and finishing School. I homeschooled my kids for a long time. Since the kids are growing up I now am able to put more time into my business. Also another obstacle I have experienced is keeping up with social media and emails. I would like to hire people to do that job and do it well.

What is unique about owning and running a business in Murfreesboro?

I think the cultures and different perspectives is what is unique about running a business in Murfreesboro. It is exciting to see the different types of people there are in this small town and help them meet their needs. It is a challenge to try to meet everyone’s needs but that’s the main goal.

As a business owner, what keeps you up at night?

I would say that time management is something that keeps me up at night. Something else that keeps me up at night is making sure people’s needs are met and that I am helping them in the best way possible. It is very important for me that dog is happy and successful and the owner is happy and successful.

If you could travel back in time to the day you started your business, what advice would you give yourself?

I would say that I wish I would have built a team earlier. I started small and stayed small just so I had enough time to be with my children. Some advice I’d give myself would be to be more confident in being able to do both of those things. Also being able to build a team and let them do what they’re good at. That is what’s important for me because I want to have confidence in my team to allow them to do what’s best.

If we made a movie telling the story of your business…. What would the title be?

The title of the movie would be “The Girl For the Job. Training and teaching animals is what I do best so I think I’ll be a great title for the movie.

What time of the day are you most productive?

I am most productive in the morning between 6 and 12 that is when I sit down and can get a lot of things done in one sitting. However, there’s some times at night that I’m awake if I can’t go to sleep and do various things around the house such as cleaning and organizing.

What’s one thing you’d say to a person starting a new business?

I would honestly say that the person starting a new business should believe in theirselves and understand that anything is possible. Starting a new business can be a scary thing but always look back to why you started and why it makes you happy. Having confidence in yourself will help your business grow.

What’s one thing you’d say to a person who’d owned a business for a long time?

If you ever get discouraged or you lose your vision always look back to where you started and look at the end goal. Asking yourself those questions should put you back on track. Running a business can get difficult but knowing why you’re doing it at the end the day is what makes you stronger not only for your business yourself.
