Jonathan Harmon - Cedar Glade Brews

What’s the origin story of your business?

“Hello my name is Jonathan Harmon and I am one of the owners of Cedar Glade Brews. I started Cedar Glade Brews with three partners Jerremy Weaver, Skip Webb, and Elicia Fortner.  My partner Jerremy actually came up with the name Cedar Glade!  About five years ago, Skip and Jerremy started to brew together and it was great beer and they won many awards. I entered a silent auction that consisted of them making any two types of beers that I want.  As a real estate agent, I’m always looking for a way to entertain clients, so I was like … “Let’s have a party!” I was bidding against another fellow and I won the bid. I had a party where Jerremy and Skip served the beer.  About 150 people came and it was a great party!  After that I started to think, “We need to make this legit.”  It went from there!”

What’s an obstacle that you’ve had to overcome to build your business?

An obstacle that I had to overcome to build my business was my own ignorance. There definitely is a learning curve when you’re starting a business because there are a lot of things that you don’t know but the growth is great!

What is unique about owning and running a business in Murfreesboro?

What I think is unique about owning and running a business in Murfreesboro is that Murfreesboro is very welcoming and they want small businesses!

As a business owner, what keeps you up at night?

Things that keep me up at night are the small things. For example: I think about if I locked the door or if I put in an order…little stuff that comes with being a business owner!

What time of the day are you most productive?

The time of day that I am most productive would be mornings between 9 and 11.  During that two hour time frame, I can get a lot done rather than later in the day.

What’s one thing you’d say to a person starting a new business?

I would have to say however long you think it’s going to take you to start and be successful in your business multiply that by 3.  Also, when thinking about how much money it is going to take to be successful, multiply that by 3 as well. It is a long process but it’s definitely worth it!

What’s one thing you’d say to a person who’d owned a business for a long time?

I would have to say that there’s always going to be things that you won’t know and not just think that you have it all figured out because there’s always a learning opportunity!
