What’s the origin story of your business?
Hello, My name is Tim Jones and I am the owner of First Class Painting! We offer painting services anywhere from residential, commercial, and so much more. We only use the highest quality and we always have a supervisor on site. The origin story of my business comes from what seems to be a lifetime of painting. I have been painting for at least half of my life and painted a lot for my family. In the last 5 years, I wanted to get back in the business after taking a break. I loved the idea of being self-employed and in 2020, I started working full-time as a painter!
What’s an obstacle that you’ve had to overcome to build your business?
I believe an obstacle that I have had to overcome in my business involves COVID-19. It was hard and still is, to get workers. During the pandemic, people got paid more to stay home then to work so that was a struggle; especially when I started my business in 2020. Another obstacle that I have faced in my business is supply issues. I had to go to many locations just to find supplies for one particular job. Also, the cost of supplies are rising just like everything else is currently.
As a business owner, what keeps you up at night?
I would say whether or not employees are going to show up and be consistent. Another thought that goes through my head sometimes is: will business be consistent? That is what comes with a business. You always have to think about the “what if” and hope that the people you hire will show up to do the job.
What time of the day are you most productive?
I am most productive between 4 a.m. to 9:30 a.m! I go to sleep around 9:30 to 10 and try to get a good night’s rest and not stay up too late!
What’s one thing you’d say to a person starting a new business?
I would have to say: realize all the aspects and responsibility that comes with a business. Realize that the business becomes your life for at least the first five years. Understand why it’s important to not let the business consume your life completely!
What’s one thing you’d say to a person who’d owned a business for a long time?
It’s really inspiring to see people who’ve owned businesses for a long time. I definitely would ask for their advice and pick their brains about things that I don’t know or understand. That is something I would ask somebody who has had a business for a long time!
